WHO WE ARE

OUR HISTORY

The City Church was born in the city of Jacksonville, with a group of 6 people gathered in a house. After a few months, that group grew and became what today is City Church: A Church with multiple locations.

Our first inaugural service was on
10/10/10. City Church is a multi-cultural, multi-generational community whose mission is summed up in this simple statement:

"REACHING THE CITY WITH THE GOOD NEWS OF THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST."

OUR BELIEF

The Gospel is the good news of what God did for us through his only begotten Son, who lived a sinless life, died in a sacrificial way, and rose again in a miraculous way, in order to forgive our sins and justify us before God. This Gospel is the basis of our confidence that the Kingdom of God will prevail and that one day we will see His purposes fulfilled over all creation. This Gospel is centered on Jesus Christ, and is the cornerstone of the Church, and Jesus is our only hope of eternal life.

This Gospel is not only the means by which people are saved, but the means by which they are sanctified. It is the truth of this Gospel that enables us to do genuinely and joyfully what pleases our Lord, and to grow progressively into the image of Christ. The salvation offered in this Gospel is received by grace alone, by faith alone and through Christ alone. There is no ritual or work on our part that is required to be saved.

What do we believe in?

We believe that the Bible has been inspired by God and we also believe in its infallibility and authority (2 Timothy 3:15-16).

We believe in the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ. That He is God with the Father and the Holy Spirit (1 Tim. 3:16). We believe that Jesus was born miraculously of the virgin Mary (Matt. 1:18-24). We believe that Jesus lived a sinless life (2 Cor. 5:21; 2 Tim. 3:15,16). We believe in one Lord, one faith, one baptism (Ephesians 4:5).

We believe that Jesus was crucified and that he rose from the dead on the third day (John 19:14-20 and 20:19-20).

We believe in the gifts of the Holy Spirit and that they continue to operate in the church today (1 Cor. 12:1-11; Rom. 11:29).

We believe that Jesus ascended to heaven and will return to establish His Eternal Kingdom (Acts 1:9-11; Matt. 25:31; Rev. 20:4-6).

We believe that there is only one true God who exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Deut. 32:39; Matt. 28:19; Gen. 5:7; John 1:1-4).

We believe in the absolute Lordship of Jesus Christ and faith in Him as the only way for a person to be saved and enter heaven (Dan. 7:13-14; Col. 1:13-18). We believe that people are saved by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ (John 14:6; Rom. 5:1; Eph. 2:8-9).

We believe in the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit that enables a believer to live a holy life. (2 Pet. 1:2-4; 1 Jn. 3:4-6,9 Gal. 5:16) We believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit and that it can be an experience separate from salvation itself. (Acts 8:14-17; Acts 10:44-48)

We believe in eternal life for those who are saved and eternal damnation for the lost (1 Jn. 2:24-25; Rev. 20:15; Rev. 14:10-11). We believe that Heaven and Hell are real places (2 Cor. 12:1-4; Rev. 4:1-2; Mark 9:42-48; Rev. 20:11-15).
